Howe Caverns is New York State’s second-most visited natural attraction and the largest show cave in the Northeast. Discovered in 1842, this living limestone cavern system takes visitors 156 feet below the surface via elevator into a cool, mystical underground world formed over six million years. Guided tours cover about 1.25 miles, featuring dramatic rock formations, stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstone, ending with a serene 20-minute boat ride on the underground River Styx. The temperature stays a constant 52°F year-round, making it a refreshing escape in summer and a fascinating winter destination. Additional experiences like lantern tours and adventure options add variety. A true geological wonder and family-friendly classic in Upstate New York.
